Abandoned Mahachai Rama Theater
The Mahachai Rama Theater, located in Samut Sakhon city, Samut Sakhon Province in central Thailand, was opened sometime in the mid 1960's and operated all the way through the mid 2010's. The current owner, Mr. Wanchai, now uses it for storage and as a neighborhood car park. Although it's current condition is quite dilapidated, it is clear that it was once a grand theatre and undoubtedly a focal point of local entertainment. Mr. Wanchai still has multiple projectors in the projector room, some of them rare vintages, even a very classic hand-cranked manual projector (once used in the 'nang klang plaeng' traveling 'pop-up' movie theaters that were a staple of rural Thailand ). Mr. Wanchai also has a slide projector (featured in this series) which was used to show local advertisements on the big screen. Furthermore, there was, at one point, a Karaoke venue set up in a room connected to the projector area. Clearly, the Mahachai Rama was once a very busy spot for local outings.
