These bando houses are yet another victim of the 'TomYumGoong' financial crisis of 1997, but that is just the beginning of the story.
I was tipped off about this location by a Thai ghost hunter friend of mine who spent quite a bit of time here trying to capture paranormal activity. The location is popular with the local ghost hunting community due to its dark history, some of which is truth and some is urban legend.
According to local residents, a female university student was raped and murdered here sometime in the past couple of decades, with her face being beaten so badly that the body was unrecognisable. After this grisly event, for which the perpetrator has never been caught, there have been a number of reports of sightings of the young lady's ghost in the area of the houses. In addition, there have been several taxi drivers who have reported giving a young woman a ride to this location, only for her to disappear after exiting the taxi, along with the fare she paid before getting out.
I don't really believe in the supernatural, but I can say the the place gave me an uneasy feeling and it is not somewhere that I would want to be after dark, as there are signs of squatters (aka meth heads) that call it home.
Creepy backstory aside, I enjoyed exploring this place and especially liked the force with which nature is reclaiming the area.
