The Scala
It's been final curtain call for the legendary Scala Theater, one of Thailand's last remaining standalone cinemas, and the most famous. The grandiose vaulted mid-century ceilings, the grand staircase, the chandeliers, the ornate wood carvings, the friendly & dutiful yellow-jacketed ushers, the old-school, ink-pen checked thin paper tickets - all of it together has made the Scala a very special Bangkok institution. Located in the heart of Siam District for just over half a century, the Scala holds a special place in the hearts of many Bangkokians. Its future remains uncertain, we can only hope that it is repurposed & that at least some of its splendid architecture, interior design artistry and general warmth/positive aura remain.
