the abandoned sanatorium
This series was taken at the Eastern Oklahoma Tuberculosis Sanatorium, children's treatment building. The main hospital site was originally constructed in 1921 and in in 1975 became a veterans home and care facility. The building featured in my images, The Harper Building, with a Cottage Plan design, is a 65 bed children's building was added in 1930. It is 2 levels and has two wings on either side of a center section. The wings were used as sleeping porches on the south with dressing rooms opposite to the north. The central portion had a large reception area for visitors, head nurse's office, a treatment room and the kitchen with dining hall. The 2nd floor of the center section held the isolation wards, solarium and a school room.
It is said to be haunted by the spirits of the children & others that died there.
This writeup has some historical details of the building involving Native American children which, if true, are extremely disturbing: http://petticoatsandpistols.com/tag/talihina-indian-tuberculosis-hospital/
It has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places in the US since 2011.
