unseen cape town
While visiting South Africa in October 2017 I got into some amazing & lesser-known places in Cape Town with the help of local architect/urban explorer Matt Weisse. This included the drainage tunnels or 'grachte' that were first built by dutch colonials in 1830, which run for miles right under the streets of Cape Town. I also shot the dungeons in the Castle of Good hope, shimmied into an abandoned Tin Mine, visited the abandoned quarry & tunnel...and shot some discarded antique steam locomotives in an old train station (including the famous "Red Devil", said to have reached speeds of 140km/hr & shuttled the president out of the city in an emergency in 1970). It was a fantastic day of exploring and shooting photos in some truly unique places in the superb city of Cape Town.
UPDATE 2022: The Red Devil has been refurbished and is taken out on regular runs in the winter months! This is great to hear. Read more of her history here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Class_26_4-8-4#Red_Devil_rebuilding
